Late Roman Silver Coin of Severus AlexanderDescription
This Alexander was the last Roman emperor of the failing Severan dynasty. At a time of economic crisis, the Severans debased the currency so government could pay out money that cost less to mint, but which led to greater inflation. This coin was of bronze with a coating of silver. Alexander wears a fillet (wreath symbolic of royalty), perhaps over a helmet.Collections
