Shelf 3: Judaea After Nero - Byzantine Jewish LampDescription
This clay oil lamp of the Byzantine Period was made for a Jewish family. It depicts symbols of the Jewish faith, a seven-armed candelabrum (menorah) and seven spouts for wicks. Note that its shape is unrelated to the traditional Greco-Roman forms, which suggest that these Jews had separated themselves from the dominant culture.Collections
