Everyday writing in the Classical Age was not done with pens on scrolls. That was for literature, legal matters, or religious texts. Everyday letters and notes were written with a pointed metal stylus onto wax-covered small wooden boards, which were closed to protect the script. After being read, the wax was smoothed out, and another letter could be written.en_US
