Letter from N.M. Crawford to Mr. O'Neal
Crawford, Nathanial M.
Letter from Mercer's President regarding the school's status during the Civil War.
This letter from July 1863 describes how the university had not published a catalog to attract prospective students since 1861. In response to Mr. O’Neal’s request for information, university President Nathaniel Macon Crawford states the requirements for admission and the increased prices for room and board. President Crawford ensured that classes continued throughout the Civil War despite a reduced faculty of three professors.
